چکیده

Screening genotypes have a crucial role to increase the efficiency of selections in plant breeding program. Therefore, this study was emphasized determine combining ability and association between traits among themselves yield. The experiment conducted at Haramaya University Research Station (Raare) for two years (2018 2019) using 4x7 alpha-lattice design with three replications. Pooled analysis variance revealed highly significant (p≤0.01) variations crosses grain yield related traits. According result analysis, parental line L3 identified as good general combiner yield, ear diameter, 1000-kernel weight, days maturity. Similarly; L1, L2, L8 proved best number kernels per row. Crosses L1×L6, L3×L5, L4×L6, L4×L8, L5×L7 were found specific combiners weight. Furthermore, cross L5×L6 whereas L4×L7 both row Likewise, L1×L5, L3×L8, L6×L7, L7×L8 towards earliness. Moreover, thousand kernel weight showed positive correlation conversely, anthesis, silking, aspect, Puccinia sorghi exhibited negative genotypic phenotypic levels. Ear length, rows ear, Turcicum leaf blight had direct effect on level. In general, presented might be useful further process improve productivity maize.

COMBINING ABILITY AND HETEROSIS IN MAIZE (Zea mays L.)

A line × tester analysis was conducted in maize involving 12 lines and 3 testers for grain yield and its components to determine the heterosis as well as general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects. Highly significant genotypic differences were observed indicated wide range of variability present among the genotypes. GCA and SCA variance for yield per plant numb...
